It's been two weeks since America's Next Top Model has had a new episode for us to watch, but it came back this week. :) You might recall that.....
Ashley was eliminated at the last panel. So, at the beginning of this week's episode, there were five Americans and four UK girls remaining in the competition.
The girls return to the house after judging as usual. Laura reminisces about her best friend who died in the motorcycle accident shortly before she came on the show to compete. Some of the girls were tossing around the stuffed animal Laura's friend had given to her, whom she named Alan. Unfortunately, Alan's ear came off and ended up in the pool. After his ear had been torn off, Kyle had kicked Alan's ear away from Laura, which caused a lot of tension between the two of them.
Laura explained to the girls what the stuffed animal meant to her and Sophie felt very bad about what she had done.
Lisa, the winner of America's Next Top Model All-Stars came to visit the models at the house to inform them that they would be making a music video this week. The girls were split up into two teams - the US team, who was mentored by Jessica Sutter, and the UK team, which was mentored by Nadine Coyle. The girls even named each of their groups - Fiercely British and the United Sirens of America.
The UK girls seemed to have a lot of fun writing the lyrics to their song.
Tyra led a teach on the right and wrong ways to do a booty tooch. AzMarie refused to put on the butt pad Tyra had instructed the girls to wear, so she was not allowed to participate in the teach. Why they needed a butt pad is beyond me. It just seemed like a way to make the girls look silly. AzMarie regretted her decision later on, though.
The girls did their video shoot in the Playhouse nightclub with Mr. J. The British girls did a wonderful job and I really loved their video and lyrics! The US girls felt intimidated by how well the other team did and noted that the bar had been set high. During the US' video shoot, Kyle received a lot of criticism. Mr. J said she looked lost with the choreography. Kyle felt overwhelmed and had to leave the set for a few minutes. AzMarie went to give her a little pep talk, and Kyle said she'd try to do better. Mr. J noted that AzMarie needs to lose some of her ego, even though she is very talented. Finally, he commented that Laura was outshining the rest of the girls on her team - even when she was in the background.
That night, the girls received Tyra mail letting them know it was time for another elimination.
This week's guest judges were Jessica Sutter and Nadine Coyle. The judges watched the United Sirens of America video first. They had some comments for each of the girls as usual.
Simone - They thought she looked beautiful.
Ebony - Kelly and Nigel were not impressed with her performance. They were happy to see her committed to her performance, but thought she committed "too much."
Laura - Kelly loved her performance in the video.
Kyle - Nigel noted that Kyle needs to have more self-confidence and that the judges would like to see her push herself more.
AzMarie - Tyra brings up the fact that AzMarie wouldn't wear the butt pad at the booty tooch teach. AzMarie commented that she had thought about it over the past couple of days and regretted her decision. She apologized to Tyra for being disrespectful. Kelly didn't understand the voice AzMarie was using in her video shoot (and neither did I; I wondered why she was making such a funny voice for her part of the song. Maybe she was trying to be unique, but to me, it just came off as irritating).
Next, the judges watched the Fiercely British video. They had the following to say.
Kathryn - Kelly really liked her performance in the video, which clearly pleased Kathryn.
Annaliese - Annaliese got a lot of praise for her energy and attitude in her video performance.
Sophie - The judges said she looked like a bombshell and she received Kelly's vote for her favorite performance of the day.
Alisha - The judges liked how professional she looked in her performance.
Personally, I did enjoy the Fiercely British music video more than I did the United Sirens of America's. I think Fiercely British worked with their music better, had the more clever lyrics, and showed their personalities more than the United Sirens of America.
The judges deliberated before calling the girls back for elimination.
The judges deemed Fiercely British as the winner of the music video contest.
Best performance - Alisha
Runner-up - Sophie
The bottom two ended up being AzMarie and Kyle. Tyra told AzMarie she thought she would make it to the finals, and possibly win, the competition. Apparently AzMarie hasn't watched past seasons of America's Next Top Model because if she had, she'd have known that refusing to participate in a task nearly always means that person is going home at elimination.
Sure enough, AzMarie was sent home.
What do you think about the judges' decision to keep Kyle in the competition? Do you think Kyle should have been eliminated instead of AzMarie? Why or why not?
