Big Brother Season 14 Premiere: First Eviction

It's time for Big Brother again!  Season 14 premiered tonight (July 12).

We start this season off with 12 new house guests.  The producers show each house guest receiving an invitation to the Big Brother house.  Some of the house guests seem confused because people going to the house usually get a key instead of an invitation.

The house guests this year are:

Ashley: Ashley is 26 years old and resides in West Hollywood, CA.  She owns a mobile spray tanning company. She claims to be really good at reading through people's lies and she plans to play everyone in order to win the game.

Danielle: Danielle is 23 years old and lives in Tuscaloosa, AL.  She works as a nurse, but told everyone in the house that she's a kindergarten teacher.  She plans to appear not to be a threat or to be very smart in the house in order to stay in the game.

Frank: Frank is 28 years old and lives in Naples, FL.  When he told the other contestants he is unemployed, they immediately thought he was hiding something.  Frank wants to set up a, "Dream Team," as part of his strategy for winning the game.

Ian: Ian lives in New Orleans, LA and is 21 years old.  He is currently an engineering student, studying at Tulane University.  Ian wants to build a strong alliance, but to be seen as one of the weakest players in the alliance while he plays Big Brother.

Jodi: Jodi currently resides in Calipatria, CA and is 42 years old.  She works as a restaurant server.  She wants the other house guests to underestimate her.

Jenn: Jenn is 37 years old and she is a musician and former bass player for the female metal band, "Kittie."  She's from Brooklyn, New York and her plan for the game is just to be herself.

Joe: Joe is 41 years old and is a chef.  He believes he can make something great out of slop.  Good luck with that, Joe, LOL.  He currently resides in Schereville, IN and his strategy for winning the game is to use his cooking skills to make friends in the house.

JoJo:  JoJo is from Staten Island, NY and works as a bartender.  She's 26 years old.  She didn't divulge her strategy for winning, but said her favorite player in Big Brother history is Evil Dick because he's "real."

Shane: Shane, a house flipper from Bennington, VT plans to win the game by being competitive, making friends in the house, and having fun.  He is 26 years old.

Kara: Kara is a 29-year-old model living in Los Angeles, CA.  She loves to read and believes the key to winning is to be a great competitor and a great social player.

Wil: Wil is a marketing consultant from Louisville, KY.  The 24-year-old wants to come off as the "nice guy," letting alliances form and then taking control of the game through manipulation.

Willie: Willie is a 34-year-old tankerman living in Dayton, TX.  Willie is Russell Hantz' brother (Russell is one of the most famous villains from the reality show Survivor).  He wants to make as much trouble as he can in the house in order to deflect attention away from himself.

In addition to the 12 house guests, this season on Big Brother four veterans are coming into the house. However, these veterans aren't here to compete this season; they're here to act as coaches.  The coaches are:

Dan: Dan was the winner of Big Brother 10.  Dan was the first contestant to receive a unanimous vote from the jury.  Since he was on Big Brother 10, Dan has led his high school football team to a state championship, gotten married, and has written two books with a third one on the way.

Mike: Mike "Boogie," has been in the Big Brother house twice prior to his return tonight.  On season 2, he was part of the "Chilltown Alliance," with Dr. Will.  He came back to compete on, "All-Stars," in season 7 where he won the half-million dollar grand prize.  Since his last appearance on Big Brother, Mike has had a son.

Janelle: This summer is also Janelle's third time in the house.  She first appeared on Big Brother 6 where she received third place.  She was awarded third place again the next season in "All Stars."  She hopes to get better than third place this time, even though she is only acting as a coach this summer.

Brittney: Brittney was evicted from the Big Brother house in season 12 by the "Brigade," which consisted of Hayden, Lane, Matt, and Enzo.  Since season 12, Brittney has moved to Oklahoma, bought a house, and recently gotten married.

After everyone, including the coaches are let into the house, it's time for the veterans to pick teams.

On Brittney's team is JoJo, Willie, and Shane.  On Dan's team is Kara, Danielle, and Jodi.  Jenn, Ian, and Frank make up Mike's team.  This leaves Wil, Joe, and Ashley on Janelle's team.

While the veterans won't be competing as house gusts this summer, the coach of the winning house guest will be awarded $100,000.

Julie Chen informs everyone that someone will be evicted from the Big Brother house tonight.  The way in which this will be determined depends on which team loses the first Head of Household competition.  The coach with the winning team will be able to choose one person to be Head of Household.  Meanwhile, the coach of the losing team will have to choose one of his or her team members to go home.

For the Head of Household competition, the house guests have to jump from mattress to mattress to retrieve three large teddy bears for their team.  It doesn't look that hard, but of course Big Brother had to make it challenging somehow, so one of the mattresses bounces, another one spins around, and yet another is like a teeter totter.  If a player falls off, he or she has to go back to the side they had started from.

As the competition begins, Brittney's team seems to be doing rather well while Dan's team isn't doing so hot.  There is a point in the competition where Janelle, Brittney, and Mike's teams are head to head, but in the end, it's Brittney's team who wins the competition.  Unfortunately for Dan, his team finishes last.

This means Brittney gets to choose whom from her team will be the first Head of Household.  She chooses Willie because he already has a target on his back as some of the other house guests are suspicious that he's related to Russell (even though he lied and said he wasn't related).  Brittney figures this will give Willie some time to make some alliances and deals with the other house guests.

Dan has to decide whom from his team he will evict from the Big Brother house.  He immediately decides that Kara is safe as he feels she did well in the competition.  While Jodi thinks Danielle gives up too easily, Danielle says Jodi may cause too much drama.  In the end, Dan decides to evict Jodi from the house.

Next episode airs: Sunday at 8/7c.

  1. They should pull a second surprise and land them on Survivor instead. First impression and first competition looked pretty weak! But then, that's what they were shooting for, right? :D
