Big Brother 14: August 1, 2012 Recap

The game is finally taking some unexpected twists and turns!

Tonight's episode of Big Brother 14 began the aftermath of the nominations ceremony.  Janelle has a meeting with her team where she tells everyone they need to suck up to Shane.  Joe doesn't like this idea at all.  He doesn't want to be fake with Shane.  I can relate; I told my roommates I would stink at this game because I'm just too honest.

As you might recall, Dan won a sushi party in the last coaches competition.  He invited the other coaches, Danielle, and Shane to enjoy the party with him.  While they enjoy their sushi, Wil celebrates with the other houseguests as it's his birthday.  A game of Spin the Bottle ensues where Ian and Ashley share a tiny, awkward peck kiss and Shane and Danielle have a longer kiss, which they both admit to enjoying in the diary room.

Power of Veto Competition

This week Danielle, Frank, and Wil are picked to participate in the Power of Veto competition with Jenn as the host.  Shane is happy about both Frank and Danielle being in the competition because he knows they will both do what he wants them to do if they win.

This week, the houseguests have to roll two balls up separate ramps at the same time and keep them from hitting the ground.  When a ball hits the ground, that person is out of the competition.

Wil is out first followed by Joe.  Frank is out next.  Then Danielle.  Ashley seems determined to win the competition, but it's Shane who ultimately wins.  This is his third Power of Veto (POV) in a row!

Shane and Brittney try to celebrate their victory in the HoH room and Brittney hopes nobody comes up right away to talk about game.  She wants five minutes of peace!  She doesn't get her wish, though.  Janelle comes up right away and tries to make a deal with Shane and Brittney.  She tells them that Frank is a big threat in the game and they need to get him out now while they can.

Ashley and Wil come up to join Janelle in the HoH room.  Janelle tries to convince Brittney and Shane that she wants to work with them for more than two weeks.  She even goes so far as to offer them her wedding ring for three weeks to show her commitment to them.  They refuse to accept it.

Janelle urges Joe to go kiss Shane's butt.  She makes him calm down before he goes up to the HoH room.  Joe manages to go up there and pledge his loyalty to Shane, telling him that he will even turn against his own team to work with Shane.  He gets a little emotional talking about how he left his family to pursue his dream of being on Big Brother.

Boogie and his team aren't worried about the POV ceremony because they have a deal with Shane.  Little do they realize that Shane is giving serious thought to backdooring Frank (which is such a stupid move, IMO)!

Brittney talks to Ian about what will happen if he wins the next HoH competition.  Ian tells her that he sees no foreseeable circumstances in which he would put Shane on the block.  She isn't happy with that answer, though.  She wants Ian to assure her that he will not nominate Shane under any circumstances.

The conversation between Ian and Brittney has made both Brittney and Shane nervous about what might happen next week.  Although I'm not sure why they're so worried; Ian hasn't been all that strong in competitions thus far and he hasn't won any so far....  They decide it might be a good idea to use the POV on Ashley and backdoor Frank (why not Ian if that's who they're worried about?).  They babble on about how they want to put Frank up next to Joe in order to "ensure the vote" goes the way they want it to, which presumably means they want to ensure Joe will be voted out.

At the Power of Veto ceremony Shane decides to use the veto on Ashley and put Frank up in her place.  Shane says he has to do what's best for him in this game.  In the diary room, he admits he hopes Frank isn't too mad at him, but that Frank is his real target this week.

Who will get evicted this week?  My guess is Frank, making Shane the biggest target in the game - unless the coaches are invited to play as houseguests, in which case he might have the chance to stay around a few more weeks.
